DROUGHT: Meeting to be held on aid distribution during drought

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A special discussion will take place under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena pertaining to the distribution of aid over the impending drought in the country.

The discussion is due to take place at the Presidential Secretariat today (18th Wednesday).

The estimated cost of facing the impending drought is approximately 1.5 billion USD.

However, State Minister of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said only around 500 million USD can be expected from the international community.

Today’s discussion with relevant officials will focus on the steps which must be taken to obtain financial aid and the provision of funds.
