(UTV | COLOMBO) – The government has reduced fuel prices with effect from 10pm yesterday.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation announced that accordingly the price of a liter of 92-Octane petrol has been reduced by Rs.20 to Rs.450.
The price of a liter of 95-Octane petrol has been reduced by Rs.10 and will be sold at Rs.540 per liter.
Meanwhile, the price of Auto Diesel was reduced by Rs.20 and will be available at Rs.440 per liter, while Super Diesel was reduced by Rs.10, with the new price at Rs.510 per liter.
The Lanka Indian Oil Company announced that in line with the decision taken by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, the LIOC will also reduce petrol and diesel prices.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation says it will ensure continuous supply of 92-Octane petrol and Auto diesel from Thursday.
The CPC said it is able to ensure continuous supply as a number of fuel shipments have arrived in the country in the past few days and several other cargo are expected in the next few days as well.
Over the weekend, the government introduced the National Fuel Pass.
Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said that the fuel pass will enable each vehicle owner to purchase a guaranteed quota of fuel per week.
Accordingly, only one vehicle can be registered under one national identity card, although business owners will be able to register vehicles under the Business Registration Number.
The general public can register and obtain the fuel pass and the QR code by visiting www.fuelpass.gov.lk.
The general public has been requested once again not to queue up at CEYPETCO filling stations until the commencement of fuel distribution.
Kanchana Wijesekera said distribution to those filling stations will only take place once the vehicles are removed.
Minister Wijesekera noted in order to implement the National Fuel Pass which was introduced on Saturday, those presently in fuel queues must be cleared adding military assistance will be sought to do so.
The Minister stressed that the general public can obtain fuel twice a week according to the last number of the vehicle number plate, using the relevant QR code.
The Ministry of Power and Energy has announced that the number of persons registered to obtain the National Fuel Pass has surpassed one million.
