“Lost Daughter” Dominates Gotham Awards

(UTV | COLOMBO) – “Lost Daughter” Dominates Gotham Awards

The 31st annual Gotham Awards took place last night, the first stop of the awards season, with Netflix’s “The Lost Daughter” dominating. The awards show shook up the way it awarded actors – ditching four gongs spread over four categories (actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress) in favour of three gender-neutral categories – lead performance, supporting performance and breakthrough performance. “The Lost Daughter” took the Best Feature and Best Screenplay prizes, a tied win for Best Leading Performance (Olivia Colman) and a breakthrough director award for its actress-turned-helmer Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Another big winner was Apple TV+ feature “CODA” which scored a best supporting performance (Troy Kotsur) and best breakthrough performance (Emilia Jones). Frankie Faison co-won Best Actress for her work in the indie feature “The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain”. “Drive My Car” won best international feature, “Flee” best documentary, and the ensemble acting award went to Netflix’s “The Harder They Fall”. On the TV front, Netflix’s “Squid Game” and FX’s “Reservation Dogs” won best breakthrough series (long form and short form respectively) while “Philly D.A.” was the breakthrough docuseries. Best series performance was another tie, this between Ethan Hawke in Showtime’s “The Good Lord Bird” and Thuso Mbedu in Amazon’s “The Underground Railroad”.
