Apple, Amazon Music set Spatial Audio plans

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Two of the world’s three biggest music streaming services have both announced plans to get into the high-quality audio business.

Earlier this morning, Apple announced that its Apple Music service is bringing industry-leading sound quality to its subscribers with the addition of Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos.

According to the announcement, Spatial Audio: “gives artists the opportunity to create immersive audio experiences for their fans with true multidimensional sound and clarity.” All Dolby Atmos-enabled tracks will reportedly work on ‘any’ headphones.

Apple Music subscribers will also be able to listen to more than 75 million songs in high-quality Lossless Audio. All will be available starting next month at no additional cost.

Less than an hour later, Amazon Music’s high-quality streaming tier will reportedly become available to all eligible Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers at no extra cost. Customers can stream more than 70 million lossless high definition songs.

The pair join the previously announced Spotify HiFi which will also offer high-quality lossless audio later in the year.
