Rishad welcomes Pakistan Envoy’s concern towards grievance of Muslims in Sri Lanka

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Leader of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen expressed gratitude to the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka for his concern towards the grievance of the Muslim community in the country.

“We too wish to state that this diversity is not the need of the hour and all Sri Lankans if united apart from gender, race, and religion could preserve peace and harmony,” the former Minister tweeted.

Pakistan High Commissioner, Retired Major General Saad Khattak today (15) in a Twitter message said that the likely ban on niqāb in Sri Lanka will only serve as injury to the feelings of ordinary Sri Lankan Muslims and Muslims across the globe.

“The likely ban on niqāb in Sri Lanka will only serve as injury to the feelings of ordinary Sri Lankan Muslims and Muslims across the globe. At today’s economically difficult time due to pandemic and other image related challenges faced by the country at international fora, such divisive steps in the name of security, besides accentuating economic difficulties, will only serve as fillip to further strengthen wider apprehensions about fundamental human rights of minorities in the country,” the High Commissioner tweeted.

Sri Lanka has taken a step towards banning the burka and niqāb, on grounds of National Security.
