(UTV | COLOMBO) – A state of the art laboratory that can conduct 500 PCR tests daily will be declared open at the Colombo East Base Hospital today.
96 samples can be tested within two hours at the laboratory while the report will be issued within four hours.
The Ministry of Health said the time frame to conduct PCR tests is significantly reduced in comparison to the usual time frame for test results.
This is the only laboratory to have such a system in the country’s national healthcare network.
The laboratory will also be able to test other communicable diseases and cancer related illnesses when the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
