Danger-prone area declared around Meethotamulla garbage mound

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The search operation in the collapse of the Meethotamulla garbage mound continued for the fifth day today (18th April).

Army Media spokesman Brigadier Roshan Senevirathna stated that body parts of a victim were found during the search operations today as well.

The death toll of the tragedy has now risen up to 31.

Meanwhile, a danger prone area in the neighbourhood of Meethotamulla garbage mount has been declared after the garbage mount collapsed last Friday.

Bandara stated the danger prone areas have been demarcated 500 meters from Dahampura towards Hanwella.

Accordingly, residents in this area have been informed to vacate their homes.

Meanwhile, a senior university spokesman told our news team that several research teams from the Faculty of Engineering of Peradeniya University arrived at the affected area in Meethotamulla.
