(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health says there is no requirement to further observe the 33 Sri Lankans, who were held in quarantine at the Diyatalawa Army Camp after arriving in the island from Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, and were subsequently released yesterday.
Speaking to a prominent online news portal in the island, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said the group did not show any symptoms of the coronavirus during the stipulated days.
Dr. Samaraweera said according to the conditions of the strain, they must begin to show signs of the virus within two weeks.
He noted that the 33 Lankans completed 14 days in quarantine and have not shown any symptoms of the virus. The group of Lankans were brought to the country on the 1st of February on a special SriLankan Airlines flight.
Dr. Samaraweera commenting on the Chinese national, Sri Lanka’s lone coronavirus case, being held at the Infectious Diseases Hospital said she has been cleared of the virus. However, he said they must certain that the virus cannot spread from her.
Therefore, Dr. Samaraweera said her samples are being tested continuously to reaffirm that she does not carry the virus. The doctor noted that a decision has not been reached yet to discharge her from the IDH.
