(UTV|COLOMBO) – The All Ceylon General Ports Employees Union says all employees and clients of the Port Authority are facing risks as no stringent measures have been implemented within the Port to deal with the recent coronavirus outbreak.
Speaking to a prominent online news portal in the isle, the General Secretary, Chandrasiri Mahagamage said he submitted a letter to the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, requesting to launch a stringent mechanism to prevent the spread of the coronavirus within the Port.
Mahagamage said there is a risk of employees contracting the virus when boarding ships which have not identified sailors who have contracted the coronavirus.
He added the Port is also lacking a medical team to determine if the tourists who arrive on cruise ships are carriers of the deadly virus, claiming a programme has not been launched by the Port to educate employees regarding the symptoms and preventive measures surrounding the virus.
