Lyca’s village inaugurated without the Kollywood actor Rajinikanth

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A village developed by a private firm, Lyca Productions in Vavuniya with 150 houses constructed for the war-displaced Tamils in the island’s North was inaugurated on Wednesday (13).

Initially the Kollywood actor Rajinikanth was scheduled to open the housing complex for the displaced Tamil but the actor bowing to the pressure from Tamil parties in Tamil Nadu canceled his visit.

Rajinikanth was supposed to present 150 homes to displaced Tamils in a two-day-long event organized by Gnanam Foundation in Jaffna, Sri Lanka on April 9.

Rajinikanth was to be accompanied by the North Province Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran, and Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian M A Sumanthiran at the inauguration of the village on Wednesday. But only MP Sumanthiran attended the opening ceremony.

North Province Chief Minister Wigneswaran also has cancelled his visit to the village at the last minute.
