(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A report regarding the illicit liquor den found inside the canteen of a leading school in the Hingurakgoda area will be submitted by the Zonal Education director to the Provincial Education Director today (14th Monday).
The discovery was made last Friday (10th March) during the island wide raid conducted by the special unit of the Excise department.
The Canteen operator was subsequently arrested with 250 liters of illicit liquor. The Suspect confessed that he engaged in illegal brewing in the canteen after school hours.
The Excise department said the suspect has been released on bail and will be produced before the Hingurakgoda Magistrate courts on 24th March.
Illegal Liquor Den in Hingurakgoda School under investigation Meanwhile, Chairman of the Canteen owners association Asela Sampath said that certain canteen operators have resorted to illicit operations due to the heavy fees charged by the Education Department.
