Underworld gang member dies in Police gunfire

(UTV | COLOMBO) – An underworld gang member known as Raja Wimaladharma alias “Gona Kovile Raja”, has died in Police gunfire in Ballapaana, Minuwangoda today.

Police said the suspect was wanted in connection to the shooting at a hotel in Soysapura, Moratuwa.

Police added teams from the Crimes Prevention Division of Kelaniya and the Peliyagoda District Crimes Investigation Unit were deployed to inspect a house where the suspect was believed to be hiding.

The suspect had opened fire at Police, while the officers fired back in self-defence.

Police revealed the suspect was injured in the shooting and was admitted to the Divulapitiya Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

Police said the 50-year-old suspect was wanted in connection to many murders and other criminal activity in Ratmalana and Moratuwa.

It was also revealed that the suspect maintained various false identities.
