(UTV|COLOMBO) – A smart card to be used on trains and an online rail ticket reservation system are to be introduced by the government.
The proposal by the Ministry of Passenger Transport Management has been sent for Cabinet approval.
The Ministry said measures have been proposed to curtail malpractices reported during advance rail ticket reservations.
The Ministry said the government intends on increasing the service rendered to the public through the project.
The project will be implemented with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank.
