The attack on senior journalist and President of the “Naam Oodagar” (We Are Journalists) organization, Mr. U.L. Mabrook, is a serious act against media freedom and democratic values, said Leader of All Ceylon Makkal Congress and Member of Parliament Rishad Bathiudeen.
In a statement condemning the incident, MP Rishad expressed strong concern over the assault on journalist Mabrook.
“This attack poses a major threat to the media sector. No one who respects democracy can condone such violence. Targeted attacks on honest and neutral journalists like U.L. Mabrook are clear manifestations of political intolerance. In the past, the people have taught a fitting lesson to those who promote a culture of violence,” he said.
MP Rishad further urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take appropriate action regarding the incident.
