SC considers FRs against June 20 General Election

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The consideration of the Fundamental Rights petitions filed challenging the gazette issued by the Election Commission to conduct the General Election on the 20th of June, commenced at 10am today.

The petitions are being heard before a five-member bench comprising Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya and Justices Buwaneka Aluvihare, Sisira de Abrew, Priyantha Jayawardene and Vijith Malalgoda.

12 Fundamental Rights petitions were filed challenging the decision of the Election Commission to conduct the Parliamentary Election on the 20th of June.

The Attorney General, Members of the Election Commission, the Secretary to the President and the Director General of Health Services have been named as respondents.
