Sajith calls for new programme for loans

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Former Minister Sajith Premadasa says a stringent programme must be introduced to disburse loans to the public.

Speaking during a public gathering in Attanagalla, Former Minister Premadasa claimed that under a future government, he will introduce a programme to sanction loans to those who are not capable of presenting guarantors.

He said funds within the local banking system must reach the public.

Premadasa stressed that banks are in possession of Rs.100 billion, adding therefore instead of lending the money to the needy, banks invest such funds in the Central Bank at a 5.5% interest rate.

He called for the need for a programme to help the needy, which also protect the banking system.
