Remains of Haputhale crash victims to family members

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The remains of the two Air Force Pilots and two Airmen who lost their lives in the plane crash in Haputhale on Friday, have been handed over to their relatives.

Police said the bodies of the four Air Force personnel were released to their families following the conclusion of the post-mortem examinations conducted at the Badulla General Hospital.

The Y-12 surveillance aircraft which took-off from the Weerawila Air Force Camp crash landed on Friday morning in Haputhale.

Air Force Pilots, Squadron Leader NB Weebedda and Flight Lieutenant DL Kulatunga and Sergeant RY Kumara and Leading Airman NLD Hettiarachchi were killed in the incident.

A special investigative board appointed by the Air Force is currently conducting an investigation into the crash.
