Public asked not to travel overseas for jobs

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau has informed Sri Lankans to refrain from travelling overseas for employment to countries in the Middle East, and the Asian and European regions owing to the risk of the coronavirus.

Issuing a statement, the Bureau said temporarily postponing reporting to work would be the most viable option at present.

The statement said advise has been issued by the Labour Departments of countries to diplomatic offices to take necessary precautions.

The Bureau noted that a special phone line has been set up at all Lankan embassies in respective countries, adding the public can also contact the 1989 hotline of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau for any advice and information.

The Bureau also claimed that decisions pertaining to Lankans presently employed in countries and Lankans who are awaiting to travel overseas for employment will be determined by respective countries and the advice issued by them.

The Bureau also requested the public to strongly follow directives issued by health units.
