A group of seniors in a number of opposition parties have expressed their displeasure over the decision by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to form a joint administration in the Beruwala Pradeshiya Sabha together with the National People’s Power (NPP).
These party seniors have expressed their displeasure when they met former President Ranil Wickremeisnghe in his office on Monday evening, the office of the former President said.
Representatives of the People’s Alliance, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and leaders such as Udaya Gammanpila participated in the meeting with the former President.
They informed Ranil Wickremesinghe that they have fallen into difficulty because of the decision by the SJB to join with the NPP to form the administration of the Beruwala Pradeshiya Sabha and also because of the decision by the former to launch a joint opposition effort to capture the local bodies which ended up as hung local bodies.
The NPP had won only three seats at the Beruwala Pradeshiya Sabha while the SJB and an independent group had obtained six seats each. Therefore, the SJB had decided to form an administration with the NPP and secured the post of Deputy Chairman.
