No gas price hike, Premier assures

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister and Finance Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa stated yesterday (18) that there is no shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LP Gas) in the country and there is no need to increase the price of gas during the festive season.

Rajapaksa emphasised this while participating in a review discussion on the current economic and market situation at Temple Trees.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of providing relief to consumers for big onions, coconut, eggs, fish, fruits, grains, lentils, meat, milk powder, potatoes, rice, red onions, and vegetables as well as LP Gas.

Commenting on the pressure to increase gas prices, Rajapaksa said that the LP Gas companies had made profits at a time when world gas prices were falling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said those companies should now support Government efforts as the Government had taken the economy forward despite many challenges while protecting the jobs of Private Sector workers.
