New PS5 event set for Wednesday

Sony has announced one last Playstation 5 event before the console launches this holiday – a 40-minute long event to air this coming week on Wednesday September 16th at 4pm US-ET.

The showcase will feature updates on the latest first party titles as well as more information on third-party games. Though not confirmed in the press release, it’s almost certain the console’s price, release date and pre-order date will be revealed in the presentation.

Microsoft recently revealed its hand, after some leaks, showing the release date and price for both the Xbox Series X and S. They’ve also recently confirmed they will be the first-ever games consoles to support both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos surround sound in games.

Both the Xbox Series X and PS5 (disc edition) have long been speculated to be targeting a $499 price point, despite rumors to the contrary this week of the PS5 being more expensive originally and dropping its price in reaction to Microsoft’s reveal of its $499 price.

The PS5 Digital Edition, which doesn’t have a 4K Blu-ray disc drive but has the same level of power, is expected to come in at $399 while the Xbox Series S, also a digital only edition but only one-third of the power of the Series X, is confirmed to be priced at $299.
