Government willing to reduce indirect taxes

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Commissioner of the Department of Inland Revenue says the government is willing to reduce the Value Added Tax and indirect taxes in future.

Commissioner Nadun Guruge speaking in Kandy said the public will be granted concessions.

The Commissioner noted if a majority of the income could be earned through direct taxes the tax burden on the public could be reduced.

He however stressed the government will need sufficient funds to facilitate the reduction in taxes.
