CBSL must do more to protect financial bodies- PM

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says the Central Bank must take full responsibility pertaining to the collapse of financial institutions that come under its purview.

Speaking during a meeting at the Temple Trees, Prime Minister Rajapaksa said the reputation of the government has been tarnished by the continuous failure of financial institutions that come under the purview of the Central Bank.

The Premier said a number of financial establishments have collapsed during the recent past.

Premier Rajapaksa noted that such development result in the public losing faith in financial establishments.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa therefore noted the need for enacting new laws to prevent the failure of financial institutions in the country.
