Appeal petition of Wijeweera’s wife dismissed

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A Special Leave to Appeal application filed by wife of JVP founding leader Rohana Wejeweera challenging Court of Appeal judgment to dismiss her Habeas Corpus petition seeking an order to produce the Corpus (body) of Rohana Wijeweera before Court was today dismissed by Supreme Court.

On February 11, 2019, the Court of Appeal decided to dismiss the Habeas Corpus petition since the petitioner failed to invoke court’s jurisdiction since a period of nearly 30 years.

While affirming Court of Appeal’s judgment to dismiss the Habeas Corpus petition in timeline, Supreme Court held that there is no legal basis to proceed with this appeal petition.

Supreme Court three-judge-bench comprised Justice Sisira de Abrew, Justice S. Thurairaja and Justice Gamini Amarasekara.
