Sri Lanka celebrates Children’s and Elders’ Day under President, Premier’s patronage

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Today Sri Lanka celebrates World Children’s and Elders’ Day.

The national celebration of Children’s Day organised under the direction of Women and Child Affairs Minister Chandrani Bandara will take place today (01) at Temple Trees under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

“Strengthen our children to go forth with courage” is the theme of 2018 Children’s Day celebration.

The event will include issuing of a commemorative stamp and a talent show for children and awards ceremony.

The national ceremony to celebrate International Day of Older Persons will take place today at Digamadulla, Ampara, under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya. The event is organised under the direction of Social Welfare and Primary Industries Minister Daya Gamage.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) designated 01 October the International Day of Older Persons by resolution of 14 December 1990, following up on initiatives at the Vienna International Plan of Acting on Aging.
