Kandy Esala Perahera Festival begins tomorrow

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The historic Kandy Esala Perahera Festival will begin on Sunday (12). One hundred elephants and nearly 1,500 artistes are scheduled to join in this cultural festival.

Accordingly, the planting of ‘Kap’ at the four Maha Devales will be held tomorrow.

The first Kumbal Perahera will be held on 16 August and it will leave from the main Wahalkada of the Dalada Maligawa and approach the Dalada Veediya.

The first Randoli Perahera is scheduled to be held on 21 August, while the final Randoli Perahera will parade the streets on 25 August.

It will be followed by the Water Cutting Festival of the four Maha Devales. The Kandy Esala Perahera Festival will draw to a close with the day Perahera on 26 August.
