Railway Strike: Over 500 buses deployed to minimise public inconvenience

(UTV|COLOMBO) – All measures have been taken to minimise the inconvenience faced by the railway commuters due to the on-going strike of the Railway Trade Unions.

All leave of Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) employees has been cancelled and over 500 buses have been deployed to facilitate the train commuters who were stranded due to the train strike.

The Ministry of Transport also permitted private buses to operate on any route irrespective of their particular route permits until the on-going railway strike concludes, and the Police have already been informed about the Ministry decision.

Several Railway Trade Unions including Drivers and Guards have launched a lightning strike at 3.00 PM on Wednesday (08) bringing train services to a halt.
