Mars Makes Its Closest Approach To Earth Today

(UTV|COLOMBO) Mars will be closest to the Earth in a decade and a half on the night of July 31, 2018.

You can see Mars with your own eyes before dawn on Tuesday (weather permitting) by looking to the southwestern sky.

Mars will be visible low on the southwestern horizon, with the moon shining to the upper left.

Though the two planets will be at closest distances to each other, they will still be 57.6 million km apart.

This the closest distance between Mars and Earth till October 2020, but the Red Planet’s visibility as good as today night’s only every 15-17 years.

The local stargazers are invited for a camp to witness the Red Planet from 7 pm to 10 pm tonight at the Colombo Campus grounds.
