Kuwait keen to boost and expand relations with Sri Lanka

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Ali Suleiman Al-Saeed called on Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana on Tuesday (24), the Foreign Ministry said.

Additionally, the Kuwaiti delegation held detailed discussions on bilateral cooperation between Kuwait and Sri Lanka with Additional Secretary (Bilateral Affairs) Sumith Nakandala and Foreign Ministry and other officials.

Discussions included implementation of agreements between the two countries on avoidance of double taxation; cultural, media, educational, scientific and technological cooperation; promotion and reciprocal protection of investment; and labour recruitment and development of manpower.

Provision of assistance for development projects in Sri Lanka from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and future Kuwaiti investment in Sri Lanka were discussed as well.

Over Kuwait Dinar 77 million (US$ 256 million) have so far been granted as loans for 15 projects, including the Moragahakanda Irrigation and Agricultural Development Project and the Moragolla Hydropower Project.
