Strong winds and rough seas expected today – Met. Department

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The possibility for increasing wind speed is still high in the sea areas around the island and it will continue further during the next few days, the Department of Meteorology said on Wednesday (18).

The sea areas extending from Negombo to Kankasanturai via Puttalam and the sea areas extending from Hambanthota to Pottuvil can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph at times today.

Other sea areas can be fairly rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 45-50 kmph at times. Hence, Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.

Meanwhile, few showers will occur in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be westerly or South-Westerly in direction in the sea areas around the island and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph.

The possibility for increasing wind speed is still high over the Island and surrounding sea areas. It will continue further in next few days.

Several spells of showers will occur in Sabaragamuwa, Western, North-Western and Central Provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts.

Strong gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph are likely over the island.
