Premier requests President to temporarily remove Vijayakala’s Ministerial portfolio

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested President Maithripala Sirisena to temporarily remove the Ministerial portfolio given to Vijayakala Maheswaran, the State Minister of Child Affairs.

Parliament was forced to be adjourned till Wednesday (04) following a tense situation arose on Tuesday (03) over a controversial statement made by the United National Party (UNP) Jaffna District Parliamentarian and State Minister Vijayakala.

Addressing the “Janapathi Nila Mehewara” event at the Weerasingham Hall in Jaffna on Monday (02), Vijayakala stated that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Organisation should be resurrected in order to ensure incidents such as the recent murder of a child in Jaffna does not take place.
