Navy rescues 2 fishermen distressed in the sea

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Two fishermen who distressed in the seas off Trincomalee due to an engine failure of their trawler, were rescued by Sri Lanka Naval Ship ‘Sayurala’ attached to Northern Naval Command.

This trawler named “Lesan 4” had left the Trincomalee fisheries harbour for fishing on last 8th of May and it had been drifting in the seas off Trincomalee owing to technical fault of the engine.

Upon receipt of this information to the Naval Headquarters, SLNS ‘Suyurala’ which was on routine patrol was promptly dispatched for the rescue mission. SLNS ‘Sayurala” recovered the distressed trawler which was floating in the seas 198 nautical miles off Foul Point. Accordingly, the fishermen were safely rescued by the crew of the ship who hurried into the venture amidst rough sea state.

Subsequently, the rescued trawler with two fishermen onboard was towed to the Trincomalee Naval Harbour, and the Navy made arrangements to hand over the fishermen to their relatives.
