(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Finnish Government says that the maximum possible assistance will be given to improve the education sector of Sri Lanka.
Finland’s Economic Affairs and Employment Deputy Minister Petri Peltonen made this promise when he met with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam on Tuesday (12) in Colombo.
Sri Lanka and Finland yesterday signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) in the education, Information Technology (IT) and Health sectors as agreed on during the visit of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to Finland last year.
During the visit the Premier and Education Minister examined the latest knowledge and strategies to develop the education sector in the country and the Finnish Government also promised the necessary support to develop technical and professional education in the country.
Following on the promise, the Finnish Government has decided to support the 13-year continuous education program implemented by the Ministry of Education, the Finnish Minister said.
The discussion between the Finnish Minister and Minister Kariyawasam also focused on the several new policies and plans for improving the education sector in the country.
Sri Lankan Minister apprised the Finnish Minister of the new education programs launched in the country and the plans to provide 13-years of certified education.
They also focused attention on plans to promote the quality of education in Sri Lanka through new education methods.
This is the first time that the Finnish Government is contributing to the development of the education sector in Sri Lanka, the Deputy Minister of Finland said adding that the maximum contribution will be given to the development of the country’s education sector.
