A new project to implement water and solar power methods for Mahaweli settlers

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A special discussion on the ‘Sasya Shakthi’ Project conducted simultaneously to ‘Grama Shakthi’ Programme was held under President’s patronage on Monday (11).

Selecting 3,000 farmer families under the Mahaweli Development Programme which is the largest multipurpose national development programme of the history of Sri Lanka implementing solar power water system methods over 3,000 acres was launched under the first stage of ‘Sasya Shakthi’ Project.

The motive behind the project is to provide new technology and knowledge to B Onion and Chilies cultivation and contribute towards the economic development of Sri Lanka.

In order to face the fluctuating climatic conditions and to the drought that is caused, as well as reducing the usage of electricity and fuel consumption are key aspects of this project.

This project is launched with collaboration of Gramashakthi People’s Movement, and Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment and People’s Bank.

State Minister of Mahaweli Development Weerakumara Disanayake, Additional Secretary to the President Jayantha Wijeyratne, Additional Secretary to the President, Director General of Mahaweli Authority Sarath Chandrasiri Vithana, and General Secretary of the National Economic Council Lalith Samarakoon and Heads of Private Organisations sponsoring this project were present in this discussion.
