Five persons apprehended by Navy for illegal acts

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 5 persons engaged in illegal activities at various places in the island during the past week. They were held for engaging in illegal fishing and illegal possession of narcotic drugs.

Accordingly, on information received to the Northern Naval Command, troops recovered a suspicious parcel which had been grounded at Urumunei beach area in Delft Island on 28th May. By observing the parcel, it was found 4.6 g of Kerala Cannabis inside and it was handed over to Delft Police for further action.

On information received by the Navy, naval personnel attached to an Inshore Patrol Craft on routine patrol in the North Western Naval Command, apprehended four (04) persons who were engaging in illegal fishing at Kibul Bokka in Urumalai sea area on 28th May. Four banned nets, 3 Kg of caught fish and two dinghies were also taken into naval custody. The suspects along with their fishing gears and dinghies were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Puttalam for onward legal action.

Further, following information received by North Central Naval Command, troops nabbed a suspect along with 2.6 Cannabis hidden near a Palmyra shrub, on 29th May. The person with the nabbed Cannabis was handed over to Pesale Police for legal action.
