(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A five-member-committee has been set up for inquiring into naming of persons whom the imperialists had named traitors to the nation as national heroes and recommending persons for this status.
Sri Jayewardenepura University Retired Professor Maalanee Aedagama serves as chairperson of this committee appointed on President Maithripala Sirisena’s instructions.
The British Government had named the heroes who had given leadership to the 1818 Kanda Udarata Battle and the 1848 Uuva Wellassa Battle against the British as traitors to the nation.
Accordingly steps were taken recently to name as war heroes 19 persons including Kaeppetipola Adikaaram whom the imperialists had named traitors to the country.
