Six persons engaged in illegal activities apprehended with Navy’s assistance

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Navy assisted to apprehend 6 persons engaged in various illegal acts at several locations in the island during the past week. Accordingly, the suspects were held for engaging in illegal fishing, possession of prohibited drugs and Kerala cannabis.

Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command apprehended a person who engaged in illegal fishing using explosives at Kokkadi sea area in Trincomalee recently. 80 kg illegally caught fish and a motor bike used for transportation fish were also nabbed along with the person. The suspect, motor bike and the fish stock were handed over to the directorate of fisheries in Lankapatuna for onward legal action.

On receipt of information, sailors attached to the Northern Naval Command in collaboration with STF Officials-Kilinochchi, apprehended two persons with 5.250 Kg of Kerala cannabis during a raid carried out in Maradankeni area on last 29th March. The two persons along with the stock of cannabis were handed over to Palali Police for legal action.

On a tip-off received by the Navy, naval personnel attached to the Western Naval Command with the assistance of Police Station Colombo (North) nabbed a person who possessed a stock of narcotic drugs, in the general area close to Sugatadasa Stadium on 28th March. 50 Pregabalin tablets, 180 Diazepam tablets, 81 Clonzepam tablets and 01 Tremadol Apple tablet were apprehended along with the person and they were handed over to Police Station Colombo (North) for legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, naval personnel belonging to the Eastern Naval command apprehended a suspect engaged in unauthorized fishing practices using banned nets and dynamite in Kokilai sea area on 27th March. A dinghy and 98 kg of caught fish were also taken into naval custody. The person, dinghy and the apprehended fish were handed over to Directorate of Fisheries-Kuchchaweli for onward legal action.

On 26th March, a person with 1.5 Kg of Kerala cannabis, was held in a raid carried out by sailors attached to the Eastern Naval Command in collaboration with Trincomalee Police. The apprehended person with the cannabis was handed over to the Trincomalee Police for legal action.
