Set time-bound action plan to implement UN resolution – Canada urges Sri Lanka

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Canada on Thursday (22) called on the Sri Lankan Government to ensure a time-bound action plan to implement UN Human Rights Council resolution 30/1.

“While noting positive initial first steps, Canada urged the Government with the technical support from the OHCHR to set a time-bound strategy for full implementation of Resolution 30/1,” Canada said in a statement.

Canada called on Sri Lanka to meet its domestic and international human rights obligations to ensure a peaceful, reconciled and prosperous future for all Sri Lankans.

Canada also welcomed the Special Representative’s report on Sri Lanka, Canada noted that the report highlighted that “continued effort is needed on transitional justice, including reparations, truth seeking and accountability mechanisms, and on implementing confidence-building measures critical to reconciliation, such as repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
