Troops facilitate educational assistance to Northern children

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Army troops in Jaffna facilitated an event under their Civil-Military Coordination (CIMIC) programme, where deserving children in in Jaffna, Mullaittivu and Point Pedro areas in the Northern Province were presented with school accessories, at the Sri Nagaviharaya premises in Jaffna recently.

The Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) had organized the programme with the intention of enhancing the reconciliation programme in the Jaffna Peninsula together with the Sri Lanka Nippon Educational and Cultural Centre (SLNECC) of Colombo. School accessories were presented to 50 needy students in the region during the programme. They were also awarded with a financial scholarship for further education from grade 9 onwards under the ‘Kepakaru Mapiya’ scholarship programme.

The donation programme was attended by Ven. Meegahatenne Chandasiri Nayaka Thero, Secretary General, SLNECC and senior military officers.
