Pakistan Chief of Army Staff calls on Tri Forces Commanders

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Pakistan Army, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, called on Army Commander Lieutenant Mahesh Senanayake at the Army Headquarters, on Tuesday (16).

During the meeting, General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake shared views on several current issues relevant to both organizations. Brigadier Iftikar Hassan Chauhadary, Personal Secretary to COAS and Colonel Sajjad Ali, Defence Advisor to the High Commission of Pakistan were also present.

Discussions were centred on ongoing training programmes for Sri Lanka Army Officers and the possibilities of further enhancement of training openings. The exchange of mementos as a symbol of goodwill also took place.

The visiting Pakistan’s Army Chief received a briefing on current roles and tasks of the Sri Lanka Army. Major General Dananjith Karunaratne, Director General Staff was also present.

The visitingChief of Army Staff also met Navy Commander Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo.

The Pakistan COAS was accorded a special Guard of Honour in compliance with naval traditions upon his arrival and was warmly received at the Navy Headquarters. Subsequently, he held cordial discussions with the Commander of the Navy on several matters of mutual interest and mementoes were exchanged to signify the occasion.

He then called on Air Force Commander Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy yesterday at the Air Force Headquarters in Colombo.

He was received upon arrival by the Commanding Officer SLAF Station Colombo Air Commodore Waruna Gunawardana and was accorded a Guard of Honour which was conferred by the Colour Wing of the SLAF.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa met with the Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias and the Air Force Board of Management after which official plaques were exchanged at the Commander’s Office to mark the occasion.
