Navy assists to arrest 7 persons attempting to sell ‘Valampuri’ conch shells

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Based on information received by the Navy, a group of Coast Guard personnel attached to SLCG Waruna in coordination with the officials of Wattala Police nabbed 04 persons with a high-value ‘Titan’ Valampuri conch shell, during a raid conducted in Wattala area yesterday (01).

The suspects were attempting to sell the 43 cm long conch shell which weighs750g, when the arrest was made. The arrested persons along with the Valampuri were handed over to the Wattala Police for onward investigations.

Meanwhile, on receipt of a tip-off Coast Guard personnel attached to the Coast Guard Station Chilaw together with Wariyapola Police arrested 3 more suspects transferring a ‘Gauri’ Valampuri by a three wheeler. The suspects were arrested during a search conducted in the general area of Wariyapola on 30 December.

The Valampuri that was made ready to sell is 6 inches in height and 600 g in weight. The arrested suspects and the Valampuri were handed over to the Wariyapola Police for further action.
