Cabinet defers ban on white asbestos

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Cabinet decided to differ the ban on the use of white asbestos for state institutions but will continue the ban on blue asbestos with effect from 1st January 2018, Minister of Health, Nutrition, and Indigenous Medicine and Co-Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne told yesterday (20).
Speaking to the Media at the weekly cabinet press briefing, Dr. Senaratne said that a delegation from Ministry of Science, Technology, and Research will visit Russia to study the quality of the white asbestos production process.

About 80% of asbestos imported to Sri Lanka are used for the production of roofing sheet.
