UTV | COLOMBO – Minister SB Dissanayake says the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is divided due to the narrow mindset of certain individuals.
Speaking to media in Kandy the Minister said majority of the Joint Opposition is highly disappointed since the talks to unite with the SLFP failed.
The Minister stated the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa , his son MP Namal Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa were against attempts to unite with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party adding former Minister Basil Rajapaksa assumes he will be safe if the SLFP is defeated at the upcoming Local Government Election.
The Minister further said attempts to unite were a failure.
The Minister noted a majority of Joint Opposition members are disappointed and are continuing discussions with the SLFP and the President.
Minister Dissanayake added the SLFP is facing the upcoming Local Government Election with the support of other parties that were part of the UPFA throughout the past ten years.
Minister Dissanayake also commented on several nominations of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna being rejected.
The Minister said 11 candidates who signed nominations from the SLPP in Yati-Nuwara, Kundasale and Pahathadumbara requested the SLFP to accept their support towards the party for the upcoming election adding it was not possible as the party have already signed nominations.
Minister Dissanayake further said the issues faced by the Podu Jana Peramuna has created a favorable situation for the SLFP.
