Former Navy Spokesperson remanded

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Former Navy Spokesperson Commodore D. K. P. Dassanayake, who was arrested on Wednesday (12) over abduction and disappearance of 11 youth, was remanded till July 19 by Fort Magistrate’s Court on Friday (14).

He was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on charges of aiding and abetting in the enforced disappearance of 11 youths between 2008 and 2009.

Other suspects, who were arrested in connection with the incident, who are in remand prison also have been further remanded till 19 July.

In 2015 the CID had questioned Commodore Dassanayake over allegations that some officers in the Navy were involved in the disappearance of several youth.
