(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena graced the ‘Samata Sevana’ Virusumithuru house handing over ceremony held at the Temple Trees on Wednesday (05).
State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene was also present at the occasion.
The event commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp and was followed by two-minutes of silence observed in memory of the fallen War Heroes.
Speaking at the event, President Sirisena said that he was happy to see the Virusumithuru housing project being carried out for the benefit of the War Heroes who had made great sacrifices to usher in peace and freedom to the nation by defeating ruthless Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) terrorists. He said that the present Government has done much to improve the welfare of the War Heroes and will continue to do so. He said that this housing programme will enable to find lasting solutions for the housing issues of War Heroes. He also expressed his gratitude to all state agencies involved in the project.
During the event, 192 houses were handed over to beneficiaries of Tri Forces, Police, and Civil Security Department.
Minister of Housing and Construction Sajith Premadasa, Deputy Minister, Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Mrs. Anoma Fonseka, Inspector General of Police (IGP), senior Tri Forces officers and family members of the beneficiaries were also present at the occasion.
