Hartal staged in Bandarawela against Uma-Oya Project

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A hartal was staged in Bandarawela on Wednesday (28) against the Uma-Oya Project.

Most shops were closed during the hartal and a protest march was also staged on the streets against the Project. Several houses have been damaged as a result of the Project and wells have also gone dry.

The Uma-Oya Multipurpose Development Project is being implemented by the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management in coordination with the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, and Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
