(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Ministry of Finance says it is against the law to increase the Retail Price of sugar despite a 10 rupee increase in import tax on one kilogram of sugar.
Issuing a statement, the Government Information Department said the price of sugar cannot be increased at any point.
The statement added a kilogram of sugar can be purchased from Sathosa for 102 rupees.
