Ranil Jayawardena wins UK election for the second time

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Ranil Jayawardena of Sri Lankan origin has emerged victorious in the June 8 British parliamentary elections for the second time, bagging 37,754 of the votes in the Hampshire North East constituency.

Thank you to all 37,754 local people who voted for me yesterday, giving me the privilege of representing North, he tweeted.

In a Facebook post he said, “It is humbling to be trusted with the votes of more people this year than ever before in North East Hampshire.

Thank you to local Conservatives for campaigning alongside me every step of the way – knocking on doors and delivering our newsletters – without which it would have been even more challenging to take our positive local message across the whole constituency.

And now, as your Member of Parliament, I stand ready to represent the whole constituency. That doesn’t mean that I am suddenly going to agree with everyone. No two people agree on everything. It does mean that I will always do what I believe is best for North East Hampshire and best for Britain.

In the campaign, I said that I’d started my work for you, but there was more to do. I’m now going to get on and do it.”
