US Government to lend technical assistance to Lankan Armed Forces

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mr. Atul Keshap said that the American Government will lend its support and technical assistance to the armed forces who are involved in restoring the livelihoods of the people affected by the disaster in Sri Lanka.

He said so when he met with the State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene for a special discussion on “Tri forces’ commitment and intervention during disasters” held at the Ministry yesterday (05).

During the discussion with the US Ambassador State Minister Wijewardene explained the role played by the country’s tri forces in restoring the lives of the affected people and highlighted the need of having necessary equipment and technology by them in order to reach affected people in remote and difficult locations during the night.

The US Ambassador responding positively agreed to provide necessary equipment, technical knowledge and expertise to the tri forces and also said that the US Government will provide its constant support to Sri Lanka.

During the discussions, Deputy Defence Attaché of the US embassy Jacob English and senior tri forces officers were also present.
