(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Completing a successful relief assistance mission, three naval ships of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy) made their departure from the Colombo harbour yesterday (03).
Accordingly, PLA Navy ships, “Chang Chun”, “Jing Zhou” and “Chao Hu” arrived in Colombo 31st May in order to augment the ongoing relief operations, following the adverse weather that wreaked havoc in Sri Lanka during the last week. The ships which were initially on a goodwill visit to Sri Lanka, subsequently focused their intentions on relief efforts to help the general public battered by inclement weather condition. Occasionally 5 medical teams and 10 small boats were on board ship to assist needy people in the island.
During the stay in the country the ships’ crew involved in various rescue and flood recovery missions, to enhance the life standard of the island nation. Remarkably medical teams on board in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy conducted many medical camps in the flood ridden areas of the country. Along with the on-board crew, a large stock of essential commodities such as; dry ration, bottles of drinking water and medicine had been channelled to the country.
